ROXI ROARS FOR TIGERS on WORLD ANIMAL DAY!

World Animal Day is dedicated to making the world a fairer place for all animals, and each and every one of us can make a difference.

World Animal Day Mission:

"To raise the status of animals in order to improve welfare standards around the globe. Building the celebration of World Animal Day unites the animal welfare movement, mobilizing it into a global force to make the world a better place for all animals.  It's celebrated in different ways in every country, irrespective of nationality, religion, faith or political ideology. Through increased awareness and education we can create a world where animals are always recognized as sentient beings and full regard is always paid to their welfare."

This year, in support of World Animal Day, Roxi Books teams up with For Tigers Foundation to launch ROXI ROARS FOR TIGERS!  A 30-day fundraising campaign to help improve the welfare of captive tigers in Thailand. $1.00 from every Roxi Tiger Book sold will go towards better living conditions for the relocated Temple Tigers.

For Tigers Foundation is dedicated to the welfare of the tigers who will live in captivity for the rest of their lives. They aim to raise the standards of living and care through research, education and direct aid.

Check out For Tigers Foundation Blog Post where they discuss the importance of welfare messaging to the younger generation.

When Elephants Were Young

Today, in honour of World Elephant Day ~ August 12th, I watched a screening of When Elephants Were Young. A documentary that features a Thai family and their captive elephant, Nong Nai. I felt it was an appropriate and responsible film showing the reality of life in Thailand for both the elephants and the people.

Elephants popularity is also their misfortune.

Asian elephants are endangered, and currently one-third of them live in captivity. There are many elephant tourist camps in Thailand as tourism is currently the only legal form of elephant work.  It is also still legal to sell and buy domestic elephants and/or their parts in Thailand.

Ironically, there are no such things as "domesticated elephants", only wild elephants in captivity.

Although it is illegal to capture wild elephants, lack of resources enforcing this issue allow for 50 – 100 wild elephants smuggled into the tourism industry each year. It is also against the law to street beg, but many families continue as it is their only means of trying to earn money.

Roxi Books aim to raise awareness of animal welfare situations around the world. Check out Roxi the Rescue Dog Helps the Elephants for an age-appropriate story about elephants used for riding and performing.

SAD TIGER
In support of World Tiger Day we are happy to announce that our fourth humane education children's book will be launching soon. Roxi the Rescue Dog Helps the Tigers - an animal compassion story that raises awareness of animals used for entertainment, specifically, tigers exploited for tiger selfies, tiger feedings, and tiger tricks.

Sadly, tigers are repeatedly bred for their cubs, who are then taken away from their mother in their first few weeks of life and used as props for tourists. What seems like a harmless photo is a lifetime of misery and torture for tigers forced to pose for pictures. Shockingly, there are more tigers in captivity than there are left in the wild.

During Covid 19 the tigers continue to be victimized due to lack of funding for food, ongoing deplorable living conditions, and limited health care. Through education and awareness of animal welfare issues like these, we hope we can reduce animal cruelty around the world.
